About the City Farm School
The City Farm School is an initiative to develop partnerships and expertise in urban agriculture on the island of Montréal. Our aim is to promote a cultural shift towards more resilient communities able to meet the challenges posed by climate change by focusing on local food autonomy. With the support of the Concordia Greenhouse, the City Farm School (CFS) offers internships, seminars, discussions, and volunteer opportunities to the general public – with our main activities being our eight (8) month internship programs. Responsibilities and Tasks
CFS Workshop Coordination
- Communication with workshop teachers, providing guidance and assistance in all organizational steps of a workshop
- Communication with City Farm School students regarding workshop dates, scheduling and expectations
- Organization of logistical set-up (booking classroom spaces, transportation)
- Preparation of workshop materials
- Cognizance of special requirements and appropriate responsiveness to unforeseen events
- Acting as primary contact person for all workshop participants
- Processing of reimbursement requests and vendor invoices or payments
- Compiling reports, including participant statistics and managing workshop budgets
- Setup and analysis of online surveys and forms (as needed)
CFS Student-Led workshops
- Providing support to students delivering workshops, which could entail: topic selection, design, presentation, choosing a location, etc.
- Coordinating schedule for all student led workshops
- Managing and creating publicity for workshops
Publicity and Advertising
- Maintaining online presence
- Weekly updates of website and social media
- Contributing to development of online education materials
- Responsible for documenting the program’s progress through photos
- Other Media
- Creating and distributing posters, flyers, signs, etc.
- Connecting with local media outlets for promotion of weekly market stand and workshops
- Responding to interview requests
Varia
- Participate in gardening activities, as needed
- Participate in visioning and planning for the the project
- Assist with weekly markets and produce distribution
- Assist with annual seedling sale
- Assist with report and grant writing
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years experience in day-to-day operations of a not-for-profit service based organization
- Minimum 2 years experience with event or workshop coordination
- Demonstrated interest in popular education
- Experience with organic agriculture, market gardening
- Demonstrated teaching and facilitation skills
- Website and graphic design experience
- Ability to work within a non-hierarchical group that practices consensus decision-making
- Familiarity with City Farm School and the project’s goals an asset
