This spring was a truly special moment for our greenhouse team—our first seedling sale since moving to our temporary spot on the 7th floor of Henry Hall. Last year’s move meant we couldn’t hold the event, so it felt incredibly rewarding to bring this tradition back, even if we weren’t able to grow our own seedlings this time around. What made the day so memorable wasn’t just the event itself, but the amazing support and sense of community we felt from everyone who shared in it.
We’re really grateful to our friends at Concordia University projects, Coop CultivAction and mind.heart.mouth, who generously shared their surplus seedlings to help make the sale happen. Their support made sure our tables were full and that visitors left with seedlings ready to be planted. mind.heart.mouth generously donated their surplus seedlings at the end of the sale to the Madinah Foundation. A big thank you also goes to Urban Seedling, Mini Mushroom Farm, Végétal Design, and Pépinière La Réfriche for tabling with us — their presence was a wonderful reminder of what we can accomplish when local growers and community members come together – and finally thank you to Fungi Fest for their part in organizing the event.
Due to the wonderful community response, and given how much this event has been requested over the past 18mos, we’re now thinking about ways to approach seedling sales in the future. While we definitely plan to get back to growing our own seedlings down the line, this experience reminded us of the value of our ongoing partnerships and sharing community resources. Not only did these things make the sale possible this year, but it also made our community feel more connected and meaningful. Moving forward, we’re excited to build on these relationships and embrace the collaborative spirit that’s at the heart of what we do.
