City Herbal Apprenticeship Program

The City Herbal Apprenticeship Program (CHAP) is a Concordia Greenhouse Project initiative focused on urban agriculture partnerships and accessible herbal education. We offer a yearly introductory-level apprenticeship based on Concordia’s Loyola campus which is open to anyone to apply to, and is priced on a sliding-scale model. Rooted in an anti-oppressive framework, we aim to create a supportive learning environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, and community growth.

Our apprentices gain hands-on experience tending to and harvesting a variety of perennial herbs during weekly garden shifts, and learn about the many applications of herbs and herbal preparations. Apprentices also attend biweekly classes led by guest teachers on topics such as botany, plant identification, Ayurveda and physiology.
