About the Concordia Greenhouse

The Concordia Greenhouse is a collectively run, consensus-based, non-profit organization. It uses the Henry H. Hall Building rooftop greenhouse as an all-organic space geared towards community, education and sustainable horticulture. The Greenhouse is a year-round green space that hosts workshops, projects and events raising awareness around food issues and alternatives to mainstream consumerism.

We aspire to strengthen the urban agriculture movement at Concordia University and in Montreal by growing local produce using ecological practices, providing experiential learning opportunities through volunteering, internships and jobs, and networking with other like-minded individuals and organizations. The Concordia Greenhouse seeks to be a place of employment for highly self-motivated individuals passionate about urban agriculture and food security.

About City Farm School (CFS)

CFS is an initiative of The Concordia Greenhouse to develop partnerships and expertise in urban agriculture on the island of Montréal all through offering workshops and internship placements on small-scale, organic, urban agriculture.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

OUTREACH postion ( approx 10 hours a week)

  • Responsible for the greenhouse website and social media for the greenhouse and assist with social media for projects as needed
  • Create and distribute weekly newsletter
  • Recruit and train concordia undergrad social media interns
  • Graphic design work as needed
  • Workshop booking in the greenhouse
    • One free workshop a week during the school year
    • Two “5 a 7” space bookings per week during the school year
    • Photoshoot and other miscellaneous bookings (whenever available)
    • Correspondence and booking of greenhouse tours (as needed)
    • Other public events / workshop booking and planning as needed
  • Outreach campaign to target new users to become involved in the greenhouse
  • Conduct a user feedback survey

ADMIN (approx 10 hours a week)

  • Human Resources work – policy creation, trainings for staff and BOD, conflict management as needed
  • Manage and organize online internal communication platforms
  • BOD Liaison and recruitment of new members
  • Bottom line annual visioning and programing meetings
  • Responsible for planning of AGM and annual reports
  • Act as representative for all Concordia committees (Fee Levy Association, Concordia Food Policy etc)

FUNDRAISING (approx 5 hours a week)

  • Research and apply for grants related to programing, infrastructure repairs and others as need
  • Support staff and  BOD members in fundraising efforts
  • Coordinate organization wide fundraising strategy

Collective Member Duties

  • Attend and participate in Collective meetings
  • Provide regular updates to collective and BOD
  • Supervise Greenhouse space during school semester opening hours (at least 1 shift/week)
  • Support other staff in the Greenhouse, as needed
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean and safe environment
  • Contribute to institutional memory and training guidebook by maintaining clear documentation of the position
  • Ensure production space is clean, organized and stocked
  • Participate in project consultations, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong ability to network and develop partnerships in a professional manner
  • Proven experience with fundraising and grant-writing
  • Experience working in human resources and with conflict resolution
  • Proficiency with graphic design, social media, promotions
  • Knowledge of urban agriculture, food politics, the sustainable food movement and issues related to food security, especially in Montreal
  • Ability to facilitate non-hierarchical group decision-making
  • Familiarity with the Concordia Greenhouse Project and the project’s goals an asset
  • Bilingualism (French/English)
  • Familiarity with Concordia networks and communities an asset
