Seeding Futures Beyond Plastics:
Dive into a Toolkit, Paths and Possibilities, and Create a Collective Sculpture
As part of Breast Cancer Action Quebec’s upcoming launching of “We’re All in the Same Boat: Your Anti-Plastic Toolkit (Beyond Recycling)”, we’ll dive into the plastic problem, its dangers and complexities, and potential paths for action. Together, we’ll make the space to imagine and plot possible futures beyond the plastics disaster. Local artist Jon Jon will then lead the group in the creation of a tree sculpture, made from materials diverted from the recycling stream, which will hold the seeds of our discussion. This piece will then be used in a collective action decided by the group. In keeping with the theme of tending to futures, Concordia Greenhouse will gift seedlings to participants.
* The event will be held in English, materials and translation in French available. Tea and light snacks provided.

Breast Cancer Action Quebec (BCAQ), is a grassroots feminist health org working at the intersections of health and environment. Grounded in an intersectional feminist, anti-racist and gender justice approach, BCAQ focuses on the primary prevention of breast cancer by addressing the environmental and systemic factors that contribute to the disease. Through advocacy, popular education, and collective action, BCAQ works to eliminate toxic substances from our everyday environments and to advance health equity and environmental justice for women and communities disproportionately affected by pollution.
Jon Jon is a Concordia alumnus and Montreal-based animator, artist & sculptor who focuses on innovative techniques, material properties, and art experimentation to find micro-solutions for an adaptive and aesthetic future.

Au-delà du plastique : semer des possibles
Explorer un guide, des pistes d’action et créer une œuvre collective
Dans le cadre du lancement du guide « Même bateau, même combat : votre guide anti-plastique (au-delà du recyclage) », Action cancer du sein du Québec vous invite à plonger au cœur de la problématique du plastique : ses dangers, ses impacts et ses complexités, tout en explorant ensemble des pistes d’action. Ensemble, nous créerons un espace pour imaginer des futurs au-delà de la crise du plastique et explorer comment y arriver. L’artiste local Jon Jon accompagnera ensuite le groupe dans la création d’une sculpture en forme d’arbre, réalisée à partir de matériaux détournés du recyclage, qui portera en elle les idées issues de nos échanges, qui continueront de germer et d’évoluer. Cette œuvre servira ensuite de point d’ancrage pour une action collective choisie par le groupe. Dans cet esprit tourné vers l’avenir, le Concordia Greenhouse offrira des semis aux participant·es.
* L’événemement se déroulera en anglais. Des documents en français seront disponibles et une traduction orale pourra être offerte pendant l’événement. Du thé et des collations légères seront offerts.

Action cancer du sein du Québec (ACSQ) est un organisme féministe œuvrant à l’intersection de la santé et de l’environnement. Ancrée dans une approche féministe intersectionnelle, antiraciste et de justice de genre, ACSQ met l’accent sur la prévention primaire du cancer de sein en s’attaquant aux facteurs environnementaux et systémiques qui contribuent à la maladie. Par ses actions de plaidoyer, d’éducation populaire et de mobilisation collective, ACSQ cherche à éliminer les substances toxiques de nos environnements quotidiens. Elle vise aussi à faire progresser l’équité en santé ainsi que la justice environnementale pour les femmes et les communautés touchées de manière disproportionnée par la pollution.
Jon Jon est diplômé de l’Université Concordia et un animateur, artiste et sclupteur basé à Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. Il se concentre sur des techniques innovantes, les propiétés des matériaux et l’expérimentation artistique afin de trouver des micro-solutions pour un avenir adaptatif et esthétique.
