Greenhouse Farm Coordinator (Concordia Greenhouse)

Hours:  30 hours/week

Pay rate:  $ 15 /hour

Responsibilities and Tasks

Greenhouse Farm Project

• Responsible for maintenance, planning and care of food production in the Greenhouse.  Tasks include;

  • crop planning

  • seed orders

  • distribution of harvest

• Coordinate educational components of greenhouse farming project.  Tasks include;

  • hosting volunteer sessions

  • hosting concordia student interns

  • work with City Farm School (CFS) coordinator to create educational curriculum for greenhouse farm project

  • Participate in teaching as needed

• Monitor, maintain and plan improvements to the infrastructure and growing conditions within the greenhouse

• Facilitate long-term planning with the Collective for Greenhouse food production projects, space use and strategic directions

• Provide training on Hygiene, Pest Control and General Greenhouse Regulations for all project participants using growing space in the greenhouse

City Farm School

• Co-lead the Greenhouse’s annual seedling project (Vert-ta-Ville) with the CFS coordinator

• Work closely with the CFS coordinator for planning Vert-ta-Ville, CFS launch event, crop plans, curriculum and plant care

Varia

• Liaise with Concordia Facilities Management, Hall building Property Manager, Concordia’s Sustainability Coordinator and all other interested parties at Concordia University regarding the continued use of the Greenhouse space and SGW gardens.

• Maintain communications with partner organizations (at Concordia and in the wider Montreal community).  Particular attention to be paid to participating in Concordia Food Security Initiatives

• Monitor and record the use all agricultural equipment and materials for all greenhouse projects to create overall inventory for institutional memory and accounting

• Participate in larger-scale fundraising strategies, financial forecasting and grant-writing

• Participate in public presentation and promotions

In addition, as a collective member of the Greenhouse, the selected candidate will attend collective meetings, contribute to the clean and safe upkeep of the physical Greenhouse space; participate in group decision-making; facilitate a minimum of one (1) workshop at the greenhouse and contribute to documentation for future holders of this position.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years experience with organic vegetable farming

• Minimum 2 years experience with market gardening, CSA farming

• Greenhouse growing experience and / or education an asset

• Highly developed teaching and facilitation skills

• Experience with general maintenance and handiwork

• Ability to work within a non-hierarchical group that practices consensus decision-making.

• Familiarity with the Concordia Greenhouse Project and the project’s goals an asset
