Accessibility

accessibility-01

The Concordia Greenhouse Project strives to make the space accessible to all of our visitors and contributors. Being that the Greenhouse was built over 50 years ago, there are limitations that we have little control over. If you would like any additional information, that you cannot find on our website, please contact us at info@concordiagreenhouse.com or 514-848-2424 x.5134

Directions

    • The Concordia Greenhouse Project is located on the 13th floor of the Hall building. To get there:
      • Enter the 1st floor of the Hall building (access via Boulevard de Maisonneuve West) and take the elevators (located behind the escalators) to the 12th floor, then follow the Greenhouse signs to stairwell #1285 and take the stairs to the 13th floor.
      • The elevator reaches the 12th floor, and then there are two sets of 11 stairs (with a small landing halfway) to reach our space on the 13th floor.
      • An alternative route is to take the escalators (located on the first floor) to the 12th floor, and then follow the Greenhouse signs to stairwell #1285 and take the stairs to the 13th floor.
    • The Greenhouse is accessible by wheelchair if we are given advance notice (to make arrangements for using the service elevator) – info@concordiagreenhouse.com or 514-848-2424 x. 5134

Location

  • Washrooms: The nearest washrooms are located on the 12th floor. The closest gender neutral washroom is located on the 2nd floor of the Hive Cafe (open Mon-Fri 9am-6:30pm)
  • To access a complete list of gender-neutral washrooms on campus, please check out this resource from the Centre for Gender Advocacy
  • Language: The majority of collective members speak English and French

Workshops

  • Primarily all of our workshops are presented in English, however, we do offer a few French workshops per semester. Most of our English events are bilingual-friendly and many of our hosts are bilingual. Presenters often are able to field questions and translate terms into French if needed
  • Contact us if you require priority seating for hearing, sight and/or mobility needs

Space Bookings

  • Our Atrium space has moveable furniture to fit the accessible needs of the event
  • For a seated event, the capacity is 25 people, for standing events the capacity is 50 people

Climate conditions

  • The Greenhouse is a space where guests may experience: loud noises from automated ventilation equipment, brightness from the intensity of the sun, water leaks during rain storms, and high temperatures during bright (i.e. the Greenhouse effect!)

Scents

  • Out of consideration for people who are sensitive to scents and who may have adverse reactions if exposed to them, please do not wear heavily scented products in the greenhouse. If you have scented products with you, please take care not to open them in the greenhouse and do not apply them immediately before entering the greenhouse. This includes cologne, perfume, essential oils, scented hair gel, lotions and other other products scented with chemicals or concentrated natural scents.
  • Soap at the hallway sink is scent-free hand soap but volunteers may also use the dish soap from the dishwashing sinks which is also fragrance and dye-free. Bleach is periodically used on floors and seedling equipment outside of volunteer hours.
